<hi style=afpcap>The giant Northrop B-35 and B-49 flying wing designs enabled the manufacturer to further develop projects for the Army and later the Air Force. Amongst these was the XP-79 which featured a large wing and a small fuselage with the pilot laying in the prone position. The strange looking little aircraft was fitted with two Westinghouse 19B jet engines. Just one example was funded with 1943 finances, although this did not make its first flight until September 1945.</hi>
